School Rules...
Behaviour:
The school expects all pupils to show courtesy and consideration to teachers as a matter of course. This also applies to other pupils in the class and particularly to new pupils to the school. All those involved in dance activities outside the school, for example festivals, will also be expected to show an impeccable standard of behaviour at all times. Teachers will report disruptive or undisciplined conduct to the Principal, who will then decide on the appropriate action to be taken.
Punctuality:
It is impossible for teachers to teach efficiently if they are continually having to wait for pupils to arrive. Being pushed in through the door at the last minute is not the ideal way to start a lesson. A calm, unhurried pupil is far more receptive. If a pupil is constantly late, it is not always possible to find time in the class to teach them what they have missed. Pupils should aim to arrive at least 10 minutes before their class begins. Extra Classes for Examinations must be attended without fail and on time!
Correction of Pupils:
Teaching pupils to dance correctly involves physical contact by encouraging them to use muscles they are probably unaware of. The basic elements of correct stance which, for example, involve abdominal, back and inner thighs can then be clearly explained. Although we make these corrections with the utmost care, they must be done in class as part of the training. Parents who have a problems with this, should speak directly to the Principal.
Performance Outside of the School:
Whilst we encourage all pupils to gain as much performing experience as they can, we ask that parents talk to us first before auditioning. We expect loyalty to the school to come first and it is important that pupils do not miss extra coaching classes or rehearsals for our own performances.
Taking Classes outside the School:
It is advisable to check with the school first before arranging holiday or summer schools.
Uniform:
An very important part of learning to be a dancer is to be well groomed for every class. Pupils should wear the correct uniform for each class. This is clearly written on the notice board. Please note that pupils who continually appear in the wrong uniform will be asked to sit down, thus forfeiting their class.
Hair - All pupils should have their hair tied well back from the face.
Ballet pupils, Grade 1 upwards - A small neat bun, low down on the head and held in place with a plain bun net (no coloured or lacy nets please), pins and grips, fringes must be gelled back.
Tap & Modern Pupils - A pony tail or plait with a ribbon/scrunchie to match the leotard.
Nursery & Pre-Primary Ballet - Pony tails or plaits.
General Note: Clean leotards and belts must be worn at all times, with pink ballet socks for girls, white for boys. It is not permissible for pupils to arrive at the school with their socks rolled down. In addition it is forbidden to wear jewellery, nail varnish, long nails (very hazardous to others), tattoos or body piercing in classes.
It is advised that you leave all expensive items of jewellery etc. at home. Any personal belongings left in the changing rooms are done so, at the owners' risk.
Studios:
No food or drink may be taken into any of the studios with the exception of isotonic drinks (no cans) or water as necessary. We expect all pupils to show respect for our school premises, e.g. use of litter bins and not the floor and by keeping feet off the walls.
Mobile Phones:
These may be brought into class for security, but must remain switched off throughout the class and not left on silent!
